About Us
3 generations of our family have opened the doors of the same old Apple House every summer and fall since the 1930's after the uncles had planted the orchard in 1928.
Even though there are fewer roadside markets in the area, there are still more apples raised here than anyplace in the midwest south of Michigan. 1/ 2 million bushels of apples are shipped out of the Waverly-Lexington area every year. Some are still sold at roadside stands like ours. This is also one of the largest peach growing areas in the state. Ours is the oldest, longest running market in the area.
Fruit growing has been going on here since before the Civil War, over 150 years. Our famous Loess (rhymes with bus) soil along the northern edge of the county makes this one of the best places in the world to grow fruit. It's this soil that gives our fruit it's distinctive flavor & color, like no place else. Loess soil runs along the Missouri  River only about a mile wide.
